Julia Gannon and Fernanda Douglas have been working together as a writing duo since meeting at the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop in 2019. A sought after writing team, they have been commissioned to create original musicals for regional theaters such as Nashville Children’s Theatre and Brooklyn Children’s Theatre.
Their songs were featured in the TYA/USA National Festival & Conference Song Slam Cabaret two years in a row, and their shows have been workshopped at Forestburgh’s In the Works~In The Woods Festival and Columbia University’s theater program. They were honored to be selected for this year’s SheNYC Arts Festival, as well as semi-finalists of the New Works/New Voices program at Syracuse University, the Drama Club Camp writers residency and the Michigan State University New Musical Laboratory.

Julia Gannon (lyricist/bookwriter; she/her)
Julia is a writer, actor, and director originally from Birmingham, Alabama and currently living in NYC. Julia attended The Boston Conservatory, receiving a BFA in Musical Theater with a minor in directing, and is currently a proud member of the BMI Musical Theatre Advanced Workshop & Maestra. Julia has written for Red Mountain Theatre’s Holiday Spectacular, Brooklyn Children’s Theatre’s productions of Sweet Tooth & We All Scream for Ice Cream, and was a staff writer for the digital theater company Pixel Playhouse. Along with her writing partner, Fernanda Douglas, she has written In BeTween (first developed at Forestburg Playhouse’s In the Works in the Woods festival,) The Fairy Goddaughter (commissioned by Nashville Children’s Theatre) and original southern gothic folk tale musical, Molly McBoone. Fernanda Douglas (composer, she/they)
is an NYC-based composer and music director from Goleta, California. As a composer, Fernanda has written eight shows for young audiences (two of which are bilingual, Spanish-English) and five for general audiences. Commissions include: Raquel’s Purple Pineapple Adventures (Creede Repertory Theater, CO), The Fairy Goddaughter (Nashville Children’s Theatre, TN), The Hobbit (First Stage, WI), We All Scream For Ice Cream, Sweet Tooth and Scouts (Brooklyn Children’s Theater, NY). When not writing, Fernanda spends her time teaching voice and piano lessons to some of the top talent in the MT industry with Liz Caplan Vocal Studios. Fernanda is a rehearsal pianist for Moulin Rouge on Broadway, as well as an active member of the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop and an alumnus of Columbia University.
